The Adventures of Flat Stanley

Hi, I am Anderson Tabora’s Flat Stanley.  Anderson sent me to visit with his Grandma and Papaw Denning (that is his mom’s parents).  Grandma and Papaw Denning are retired from their jobs and had bought a Fifth Wheel RV, to travel the United States.

Right now we are in Quartzsite, AZ.  Quartzsite is located on Route 10, 118 miles west of Phoenix, AZ, 99 miles north of Yuma, AZ and 17 miles east of the California Border.  It is in the Southwest corner of Arizona.

We were very busy this past weekend.  Here is what we did:

First Grandma Denning took me to Parker, AZ (36 miles north of Quartzsite) to the Blue Water Resort and Casino.  I had my picture taken by the Colorado River.

Here I am overlooking the pool area in the Resort.  They had a slide in the pool.  We just pretended that I was going down the slide.

Was gonna play the slots.

We met a Border Patrol officer.

Papaw told him how much we appreciated what he was doing and also thanked him for his service while he was in the military for helping to protect our country.

We went to the Historical Castle Dome City.  This was an old mining town.  Castle Dome’s silver mining began in 1864 and was mined until 1979.

Here I am on the main street of the Ghost town.

This is some mining equipment that was used to mine for silver.

This is how the school house looked in Castle Dome.

This is what their church looked like.

We stopped by the Hotel.

This was the court yard for the hotel.

This was the first floor of the hotel.  This was the public part of the hotel where travelers came to relax.

This nice lady showed me the guest rooms of the hotel.  She said there were a lot of little travelers come through here like me.

We stopped by the Sheriffs Office…..

I don’t think I would like to be here for very long….that’s where they keep the bad people.

The Marshall was going to arrest me for being under age for coming into the local saloon.  He turned me over to Grandma Denning and we left quickly.  It was fun meeting an old West Marshall.

Here are a few more pictures of the Old Ghost town:

This is the Blacksmith building.  No modern equipment in here.

This is an old building down by the mines.

Check out what they used for windows.

It is old colored and white bottles.

Later that evening we were invited to an evening campfire with some of the friends Grandma and Papaw had met in the desert.

They are serious about their campfires!!!

I was glad that I got to come to enjoy the campfire also.

On Sunday we went to the Nellie E Saloon, AKA the Desert Bar.  It is only open on Saturday and Sunday, only from Sept thru May. The hours are from Noon to Dusk,  it is all operated with solor power.  When the sun goes down there is no more power.  Lots and lots of people come to the Desert Bar for the music and have a great time.

This is the Chapel.

This is the road out.

Hope you enjoyed my adventures so far.  We will be going to Yuma, AZ sometime this week then next week we will be going to Mexico.  There are lots of things to see and do in this beautiful county of ours.
